Hieroglyphic Translation Practice
A 10 class course providing guided translation practice. Each class looks at a different inscription combining, shabtis, scarabs, stela and wall inscriptions. Requirements: Must be at least intermediate level (if you are unsure I can send you a level test), and a copy of Gardiner's Egyptian Grammar or Faulkner's Concise Dictionary of Middle Egyptian. These are not included in the price, and both are available from Amazon. They will be useful for vocabulary.
Have you got a copy of Alan Gardiner's Egyptian grammar and tried to work your way through the exercises?
Frustrated there is no answer book?
Why not go through the 33 exercises with the guidance of a teacher in this correspondence course?
For each chapter there will be simplified explanations of the grammar points, and then send the answers to each exercise to me to be marked, and commented on.

Mummification
- The preservation of the body was important to the funerary beliefs. Learn the processes of mummification, from the evidence surviving.
The role of the temple was different to the modern role of the church, and was in fact fundamental to the Egyptian community.
The cult of the ka was practiced in order to aid the deceased in rebirth into the afterlife.

Outline -This course was a basic introduction to ancient Egyptian history and covered religious myths and the pantheon that they introduce, an introduction to the ideology of kingship and how this developed into propagandistic texts. We also covered the burial rites and practices including mummification and the burial itself, also looking at the significance of the tomb design and role.
